The CARE and welfare teams of customs healthcare society after actively participating in rescue and relief operations for the flood effectees are now concentrating on their rehabilitation. Though the relief operation are still continuing now the main emphasis will be on rehabilitation. To achieve this end, up till now 170 families have happily returned to their homes. All of them were provided shelter, necessary utensils, stove, cooler, clothes, one month FOOD and CASH. During the last visit to KPK, we distributed five truck loads of food items, Eid Gifts, clothes, and other relief goods. We also intend to build at least 200 one room houses for the flood victims of Noshehra, work in this regard has already been started.

Ever since the start of relief operations since 29-july, the teams of Customs Health Care Society have treated 25,000 patients, distributed CASH and FOOD items worth 32 million. And also vaccinated, 11,000, mostly children against water borne diseases.

During the last week our teams dared to travel through mountains to reach Badali, a remote village near Madyan, and helped the inhabitants through medical camps and distribution of relief items. The beautiful Valleys of Swat were badly hit by the recent floods, more then 32 bridges in Swat were swept away by the flood. The inhabitants of Madian, Bahrin and Kalam are still living in landlocked areas as there is no road link. The people of Kalam traveled for 15 to 25 hours on foot between the mountains to reach our medical and relief camps established near Madian. Food supplies for one month was supplied to 400 families besides treatment of 1700 patients with different ailments.

We have been working in flood hit areas of Noshera, Charsada and their suburbs. The flood victims are in great pain and misery. Their agony is increasing day by day. The diseases like skin infections (scabies) diarrhea, gastritis are on the rise. Scabies and diarrhea have already become epidemic. While working in the villages Dogana, and Khwaishge of Noshera we witnessed that putrefied dead bodies of Buffalos, cows, horses and donkeys lying on the roads and in the fields. Ever since 29th July 2010 when the poor inhabitants and these animals were hit by the flood, without any prior warning. Nobody has bothered to dump these bodies so that the flood victims could be saved from further pain and agony in the form of diseases. However our team members took the pains to do the job, and with the help of locals we were able to dump the bodies of animals in order to save the population from further misery and pain in the form of infections.

The Care & welfare Teams of Customs Health Care Society (CHCS) also visited the flood hit areas of Sindh and Southern Punjab where besides conducting medical camps and vaccination of the children five truck loads of relief goods were also distributed. During our latest visit to flood hit areas of KPK (30th August to 7th Sep) It has been observed by our medical team that Eye infection in form of conjunctivitis is spreading like an epidemic. In our camps more than 1500 patients with conjunctivitis were treated

Most of the affected persons are afflicted with different diseases. Due to unavailability of clean drinking water, the water born diseases like cholera, typhoid, hepatitis A, shigella, diarrhoea, skin infection are on the rise. Most of the children are hit by diarrhea and chest infections. Skin eruption in the form of contact dermatitis are rampant. Every 2nd person is hit by skin eruption of one type on the other. Breast feeding mothers are unable to feed their children due to non availability of proper & balanced diet. The break up of different diseases in different age groups is given as under in respect of the 25000 patients treated in our medical camps.

    Age wise breakup.

    children (1 month to 15years) 10000

    Men (16 years to 80years) 6000

    Women (16 years to 80 years) 9000
