Jamshed Dasti And The PM

My letter in the NewsPost on the appointment of Jamshed Dasti, whose graduation degree was proven fake, as the advisor to the Prime Minister:

Saturday, April 17, 2010:

This is with reference to your editorial “Dasti and the PM” (April 12). The PPP has once again decided to give party ticket to Jamshed Dasti to contest the by-election. He had resigned recently after his graduation degree was proved a fake. Rather than reprimanding him, the PPP has once again taken a step that will damage its image. On the other hand, another MNA who had to resign due to the same reason has been welcomed by Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer because he decided to join the PPP. What kind of message are they giving us? That fraudsters will be rewarded rather than punished? While the PPP has learned and admirable people like Raza Rabbani and Aitzaz Ahsan it is patronising dubious characters like Jamshed Dasti. The PPP should maintain some standard. Where are Sherry Rehman and Naheed Khan?

Hafsa with due respect i want you to say that we believe in realities and the reality is that Dasti has the power of masses and he will elect again as he had done alot in his constituency. I am from Muzaffargarh and people there are pissed off from Jaagirdaars like Khars and Jatois. Dasti is not a rich man but he owns the power of poor masses of his constituency. So please clear your concept and do learn what the reality says. i offer you to visit my town and see what dasti had given to the people of my town. thank you!

Ofcourse he’s likely to be elected again annd that means the illiteracy and unawareness in our people is alarming. They go for another wrong or evil in order to shun another. They hand their own fate through votes to criminals and frauds and then complain.
Yes, jageerdars are loathesome and our people are frustrated by them but that still doesn’t justify giving vote to another fraud who, in my opinion, is equivalent to the Khars and Jatois.
Dasti isn’t legally fit to contest elections due to a fake degree.

If he’s a fraud, he should be punished. Accountability should be for all. This liking of our masses for the ‘Robin-Hood attitude’ (supporting a man who does wrong to do good) will finish us off some day. A wrong is a wrong.Pakistanis have been agreeing and flowing with the same system of electing criminals and crooks again and again since 63 years and you can see the result today. We do not want a change and neither aim for it.

If Dasti loves his people so much, he should mend his ways, get an approved degree, contest, win and then serve.

Dasti has 40 registered cases on him with one that resulted him in 10 years of jail and he’s on bail currently. And if indeed the people like him, he must clear his position on the cases.

The ‘yeh Pakistan ka system hai’ and ‘Pakistan main sab chalta hai’ line is extremely annoying and angering for me. This is not right and as long as we keep following such ways, we’d never progress.
Change your own mindset to change your fate which is your country.
