Recently, Bangladesh hanged the murderers of Sheikh Mujib-ur-Rehman while India has ordered one of its most important generals to face court martial due to his involvement in a land scandal. This leaves me bewildered as even after 63 years, crooks, criminals and murderers of our leaders roam free in the Land of the Pure. The generals that tarnished our Constitution, damaged the entire democratic system, sowed the seeds of nepotism and corruption, shackled the media, deposed the judiciary and sold citizens to foreign countries — in short, left us teetering on the edge of collapse — haven’t been held accountable as yet. As long as the traitors of our nation are not punished, it is unlikely that our country comes out of the state of chaos it is in.
